Metro de Madrid is one of the fastest growing networks in the world. The Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) command post is the nerve center of the Metro’s network. Moreover, Lines 1 & 6 projects are the only cases in the world of a successful brown field project re-signalling an operating line from an old ATO speed code system to CBTC, with zero closes or service interruptions. This session will discuss: — 
  • Integrating multiple aspects of train operations into one cohesive system — 
  • Using automation to coordinate rail diversions, and monitor and respond to incidents — 
  • How the Metro de Madrid plans to use control measures to approach increasing congestion due to population growth

The Sydney Metro North-West rail link is being built to service a predicted population of 60000 between Rouse Hill and Chatswood. During peak hours, trains are expected to run every four minutes thereby removing the need for timetable scheduling. This will require a very sophisticated system of CBTC. This session will:
  • Provide an overview of the rail-links construction so far as well as key learning points — 
  • How the CBTC system has been tailor-made to suit the needs of the line — 
  • Discuss how the metro plans to integrate the train controls of a high-throughput line into Sydney’s rail network

Cyient has provided design services for a mass transit project, resulting in a capacity increase of 30% and a reduction of delays by 18%. The objective of the project was to upgrade the existing legacy signalling system to the latest CBTC signalling system while ensuring minimal disruption to existing traffic, 45% of which was going through tunnels.

Currently, Train Control systems typically use purpose-built dedicated Telecommunications infrastructure. However, as the industry moves more towards automation, we can expect different approach to be more appropriate. Brookfield Rail has a strong focus on working collaboratively with its customers and above rail operators to safely maximise freight throughput and timely passenger arrivals on rail network in the southern Western Australia. 
This has been achieved by: —

  • Working collaboratively on operational change initiatives that will result in cost savings, more robust schedules, maximising available rolling stock, and increasing network capacity; and —

4:00 PM CLOSING KEYNOTE ADDRESS: Sydney Trains’ new Rail Operation Centre

Sydney Trains is delivering a significant program of work to build the rail network to cater for future growth and increasing demand. The challenge is to safely run more trains on time without reducing the service experience for customers. To do this Sydney Trains is introducing new technologies, new ways of working and cultural change. This session will take you on a journey looking back in time and forward to the future and will cover some of the major programs underway necessary to cater for the future growth including building a multi-million dollar state of the art Rail Operations Centre to minimise delays to ensure when incidents do occur on the rail network, incidents are dealt with swiftly and customers receive better and aster accurate information.

Each table will spend 10 minutes generating solutions to a key issue with a moderator, who will record the main points of discussion. Each table will focus on a separate issue related to change management during digital transformation. As the groups rotate, the table moderator will give a brief summary of the points raised so far, allowing the new group to pick up where the previous group left off. Following three rounds of discussions, the key points from each table will be updated to the main screen on-stage so that everyone can see the solutions that have been generated. Afterwards, attendees will also be able to access the solutions collected on the day.
